An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 triggered panic Friday in Panama's capital and caused the collapse of buildings and roads, mainly in the center of the country. More than a hundred aftershocks have been recorded since, prompting some residents to sleep outdoors.

A powerful earthquake shook Panama on Friday, with an epicenter in the Azuero peninsula, according to USGS. Tsunami alerts were issued for neighboring countries. President José Raul Mulino spoke of a « great disaster » and roads « totally collapsed », and declared a major disaster after two earthquakes in the south of the country.
