Direct military escalation between the United States and Iran
The US military claims to have destroyed five Iranian oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz, in addition to three previously destroyed. In retaliation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps struck a US military base in Jordan and targeted around twenty vessels, including oil tankers, in the Gulf. Jordan claims to have intercepted a barrage of Iranian ballistic missiles.
