Bomb alerts: around twenty flights targeted in Europe

France · 4 sources

On Thursday 5 November, at least twelve aircraft were affected by bomb alerts following threats received by several European airports; other sources mention at least 21 flights. An Airbus A320 Dublin-Rome was diverted to Évreux, in Normandy, escorted by two fighter jets; the 157 people on board are safe and sound. This is the second episode of its kind in a week. The British government speaks of a "malicious hoax threat".

Why it matters

No evidence currently links these threats to Russia, Iran or proxy groups, but they forced several countries, including France, to mobilize their air force.

The S&P 500 shed approximately 2,900 billion dollars in market capitalization, the largest single-day loss of value ever recorded.
